    Café Saint-Ex‘s 3rd Annual Memorial Day Chili Cook-Off Returns with 14th Street Chef Throwdown

    Mid-City Community Street Festival Offers Chili from 14th Street’s Best Chefs, Flowing Brews, Live Bands and Kids Activities for Charity

    WHAT: 14th Street restaurants are all the rage – but which one of them makes the best chili? Café Saint-Ex is bringing back their annual Memorial Day Chili Cook-Off on Monday, May 30 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., this time gathering 14th Street’s best chefs for a Chili Smack Down competition. Closing down T Street for the community street festival, the afternoon will offer chili tastings from the best local chefs, flowing brews, live music and kids’ activities, all to raise money for the local Garrison Elementary School.

    Chefs will present unique chili recipes which will be judged by a panel of food journalists and bloggers  including Amanda McClements of Metrocurean (www.metrocurean.com) and Alejandra Owns of Borderstan (www.borderstan) and tasted by over 1,000 consumers. Prizes will be awarded in a number of categories including First Place, Second Place, Best Use of a Unique Ingredient and People’s Choice, which will be judged by those who attend the Smack Down. First place will be awarded $500 and second place will be awarded $200.

    The community event will also feature live music from local Washington, DC bands, flowing beer from an on-site Peroni truck, and a family-friendly interactive Kids Zone. All proceeds from the 14th Street Chili Smackdown will be donated to Garrison Elementary, and the public is invited to join the festivities and sample some of DC’s best chili while supporting the local community.

    Café Saint-Ex Hosts Exciting Labor Day Celebration with Pig Roast and Live Bluegrass Music

    Mid-City Neighborhood Restaurant Shuts Down the Street for Energetic Labor Day Festivities Including Eco-Friendly Foods Pig Roast and Live Bluegrass Music

    Café Saint-Ex is shutting down T Street in Mid-City to host an exciting Labor Day Street Party complete with a charity pig roast and live bluegrass music on Monday, September 6 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to raise money for the local Fillmore Arts Center. The community will come together to enjoy a whole smoked pig from Eco-Friendly Foods and live bluegrass tunes from Amanda Murphy and the Lost Indians. The public is invited to join Café Saint-Ex’s Labor Day festivities while supporting local arts. In addition to the live music and food, kids can gather at the interactive arts zone where they can help paint panels painted by Peter Chang of No Kings Collective.

    Patrons will enjoy typical cook-out favorites with a Café Saint-Ex twist including a delicious pulled pork sandwich, homemade potato salad and fresh coleslaw for $10, and an interesting selection of beers including Peroni, Batch 19 and Blue Moon. All proceeds will directly benefit Fillmore Arts Center, DC public school arts program that provides in-depth arts education for more than 2,300 local public school children.

    Café Saint-Ex and Bar Pilar Heat Things up for Charity with Second Annual Memorial Day Chili Cook-Off

    WHAT: Think you know chili? Café Saint-Ex & Bar Pilar are offering locals the opportunity to take on their culinary skills at their second annual Memorial Day Chili Cook-Off on Monday, May 31 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m to raise money for the local Fillmore Arts Center. Local chili masters will compete against the culinary best of Café Saint-Ex and Bar Pilar including Executive Chefs Billy Klein and Justin Bittner for the best chili recipe. The family-friendly community event will also offer face painting for children, temporary tattoos, and a local student-run fresh lemonade stand to also raise money for the cause. The public is invited to join the festivities and sample some of DC’s best chili while supporting local arts.

    A panel of five judges will name the winners. Winners will take home exciting prizes ranging from cookware to Washington Nationals tickets. Contestants wishing to take on the Saint-Ex & Pilar chili gurus must sign up in person at Café Saint-Ex by May 24th to compete in the cook-off. All chili and lemonade proceeds will directly benefit Fillmore Arts Center, DC public school arts program that provides in-depth arts education for more than 2,300 local public school children.
