Chinatown Coffee Co. will host its “Summer Beer Fest” event in celebration of its summer menu of beer on Friday July 22nd from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.  The event will feature $2 cans of the DC Brau Brewing Company’s Public Ale and a 25 percent discount on its featured summer beer list.

DC Brau Brewing Company was founded in 2009, and is the first production brewery to be based in the District since 1956. Co-founders Brandon Skall and Jeff Hancock have extensive experience in the restaurant and brewing businesses, and have combined their shared knowledge to create a unique beer that DC can call its own.

Other beers that will be featured in Chinatown Coffee Co.’s Summer Beer Fest include Victory’s Golden Monkey of Downingtown, Pa.; Bell’s Oberon Ale of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Great Lakes’ Eliot Ness of Cleveland, Ohio; and Anderson Valley’s Summer Solstice of Boonville, Calif.

Assistant General Manager Josh Croston said, “DC Brau’s Public Ale is a great beer and is by far one of my favorites. The Public Ale is a smooth pale ale with a nice crispness from its abundance of hops. Chinatown Coffee Co. is always looking for local DC businesses to support and I know we are all very excited to offer DC Brau’s Public Ale to our customers at the Summer Beer Fest event.”

Chinatown Coffee Co. is located at 475 H St., NW, on the corner of 5th and H St. For more information, please visit www.chinatowncoffee.com.

Washington, DC – March 14, 2011 – Chinatown Coffee Co. is excited to announce the return of its food truck happy hour series, Food Truck Thursdays. The shop hosted successful happy hour events Red Hook Lobster Pound and Eat Wonky last fall.

Starting March 31, Chinatown Coffee Co. will host a joint happy hour each Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:30pm with a different DC food truck. With spring on its way and Washingtonian’s Food Truck Fight in full force, it is the perfect time to bring back this popular partnership between the brick and mortar shop and the food truck community.

The week’s featured food truck will be parked outside the shop, on the corner of 5th and H Street, NW. Customers will be able to purchase food outside and bring it into the shop to eat and enjoy some beverages. Chinatown Coffee Co. will offer $3 beer specials, in addition to a selection of wine and absinthe.

The current line-up is as follows:

    March 31: Takorean

April 7: Red Hook Lobster Pound

April 14: Fojol Bros. (Their Indian food Truck)

    April 21: DC Empanadas

    April 28: Big Cheese

    May 5: Sabor’a Street

    May 12: Eat Wonky

    May 19: CapMac

    May 26: DC Slices

    June 2: PORC

Stay tuned as more trucks roll in this summer and join the series!

3 Trucks were at the DC State fair today: DC Slices, Curbside Cupcake and the Sweet Flow Mobile (Sweet Green’s frozen yogurt). I didn’t get to Sweet Green’s truck, but I’ve tried their product at the storefront.

I tried a slice ($4) and it needed more cheese (and to be served hotter)–it was alright for having come from a truck, but not great. The sauce was it’s strength. The person with me didn’t like the crust. I’d try it again. They were also out of everything but plain slices.

I tried the lemon cupcake ($3) from Curbside and it was good…with the lemon cupcake and lemon frosting bringing different flavors and textures. Thumbs up.

In other food truck news…The Red Hook Lobster Pound Truck will be at Chinatown Coffee this Thursday evening 9/2 for a happy hour from 630pm-830pm. That is…lobster rolls at 5th and H NW! Chinatown coffee will be offering $3 Lagunitas IPA and Dale’s Pale Ale. I’d love to see more events like this.

    Absinthe preparation at Chinatown Coffee

BTW, Chinatown Coffee has several varieties of absinthe which they mix with water, sugar, and fire…it was like watching a ritual. 🙂 What’s a little toxin and psychoactive substance among friends? 🙂 BTW, I like anise…and I still didn’t like the absinthe I tried at Chinatown Coffee, but the variety I tried was herbal.  Next time Ill try the Swiss one.
