Conetastic

ben_and_jerrys.jpg

April 19: The day Joan of Arc was declared a saint. The 1995 Oklahoma City bombings. The death of Charles Darwin. My friend Margeau’s birthday.

But as far as DcFud readers are concerned, April 19 is special because it’s Freeeeeeee Cone Day over at Ben & Jerry’s from 12-8 p.m. today. So if your office or apartment’s in close proximity to a location, or if you just feel like taking an afternoon field trip, go enjoy a cone! Over at the CityPlace branch in Silver Spring, the lines were long, but the conditions were Soup-Nazi-esque, so things moved rather quickly.

So go on – brighten your day with a little Cherry Garcia. You know you want to.

Good lord, you shoulda seen the line at the Dupont B&J around 3:00 PM. No way I was hitting that. Did anybody score a free cone anywhere? Nonetheless, thanks for the reminder, MJF. Free cone is fabulous! Maybe my timing/location will be better next year.

I waited about 15 minutes in Silver Spring around 2.

Around 5pm I only waited about 10 min at Silver Spring B&J's.
But when I got to the front of the line, they told me they were out of New York Souper Fudge Chunk. I was devasted. Luckily I regained my composure long enough to order a Fudge Brownie Chunk or whatever it was called.
I didn't realize that B&J's stores are certified Kosher, but there were a bunch of Orthodox Jews getting their ice cream on. Nothing brings out Jews like free Kosher food.

having never lived or worked near a B&J before, and suddenly finding myself both living and working near one, i have to admit that i went overboard and had a cone of cookies and cream at the silver spring location during the day and then a cup of peanut butter cup at the chevy chase location after work. both times i waited about 10 minutes. then i went to the gym for an hour. it was worth it!
