Rumors are that the Red Bean, the Mt. Pleasant restaurant profiled in the Washington Post’s Sunday Magazine, will close after tonight. Phone calls yielded no solid answers. I never ate at the restaurant, but followed the ‘Adventures of Frank’ every Sunday in the Post. Based on the articles, the restaurant struggled from the start with constant financial hurdles to get over. However, the opinions of the Cajun and Creole cuisine seemed positive.
Let us know if you have the low down on the Red Bean’s fate.

  • Red Bean Calls It Quits?

DCFüd points us to rumors on eGullet that Red Bean, the postage-stamp sized eatery in Mt. Pleasant that DCist has been known to enjoy will be closing after tonight. After the trials and tribulations chronicled in the Post, DCist isn’t exactly surpris…

  • I went by there today on the way to work and the metal sign that used to hang on the window is gone. To me that pretty much summs up the verdict.
Also on the mtp message board, a person claiming to be frank foretold of the closure.

  • It is sad to hear, and I personally think the Post Magazine cursed the Red Bean with the Adventures of Frank series. I really wanted them to succeed, but the portrayal of Frank as a disorganized and down-in-the dumps guy left me wondering how the food could possibly be good. Makes me wary of ever going into the industry…

  • The Red Bean was more then a restaurant. It was a place to relax and enjoy good conversation. A place where the food and the atmosphere were a match made in Ireland. Ode to Frank and Mike who fought tooth and nail to achieve success. And they have just that. The restaurant may be closed however the doors of opportunity have opened wide for these two dreamers. Success is how you make it, and these two men have made it. Thanks for all the good food and all the great nights of laughter and conversation. I cannot wait to see what they do next!!! And to bad none of you rich boys out there didn’t see a capital investment in this great restaurant!

  • It’s hard enoough to have lost the restaurant but to read all of these nice things brings yet another batch of tears from my eyes. Thanks for all of the encouragement, especially you Jaws. I think I was cursed by the Washington Post Magazine in a weird way. They just loved focusing on negative things. I’m not sure what happens next. Hopefully you will just hear about it and not read about it. Thanks again everyone, Love, Frank

  • Good luck Frank and Mike, I hope to hear about
future adventures and I know you too will bring
it. I miss you guys alot and the restaurant. I
hope you guys are brewing up some future ideas
cause the red beans atmosphere and food mixed with good people and killer music just cannot be matched….An Irish wink for my blokes…….
